According to Wikipedia, eating your own dog food, also called dogfooding, is a slang term for when a company uses its own product to demonstrate the quality and capabilities of the product or service. Dogfooding can be a way for a company to demonstrate confidence in its own products or services.

Well, Markit Strategies & PR, the company that I started in 2005, is getting the opportunity to eat its own dog food. After an eight-year run as the agency of record for Plex Systems in Troy, Mich. – as well as several other technology-oriented companies – our role as marketing, PR, and lead generation specialists for the cloud ERP provider has come to a close. With new owners, Plex has opted to bring its marketing efforts in-house.

Through this enterprise software technology company’s growth, our organization grew as well. Along the way we won 12, yes 12 IABC Renaissance Awards for our marketing and communications work produced for the tech company.  We helped Plex grow from 50 employees to more than 400 in those eight years. Lastly, they enjoyed an annual revenue growth rate of 35 percent year after year during the time we worked with them. We are extremely proud of the work we have done to establish Plex to its position as a leading cloud ERP provider in a fairly crowded and competitive tech space. But, just like the parents of grown teenagers, it’s time to let go and watch them make it out in the real world on their own.

So how does a tech marketing communications agency fill the vacuum left by the loss of a major client?  Well, we eat our own dog food, promote our own services, and get back out there. And that’s exactly what we are doing.
